Mission 1

Description

Mission 1 is designed to introduce participants to sustainable gardening.

Learning objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn what constitutes a sustainable garden.
  • Review the benefits of sustainable gardens.
  • Review characteristics of Mediterranean sustainable gardens.
  • Review the environmental impacts of gardening.

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Define the term sustainable garden.
  • Recognise characteristics of Mediterranean gardens.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sustainable garden benefits.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the environmental challenges facing gardens.

Duration: 1/2 hour

Mission 2

Description

Mission 2 is designed to help participants develop a capacity for sustainable thinking and practice in landscaping and gardening.

Learning objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn to choose plants and trees that require minimum water needs (eg native).
  • Define xeriscaping.
  • Review practices that collect, save and use rainwater for irrigation purposes.
  • Review practices that help limit surface runoff.
  • Review practices that take care of the soil.

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able:

  • Design sustainable gardens.
  • Apply the knowledge gained in their professional environment.
  • Apply the knowledge gained in their personal environment.

Duration: 1/2 hour

Mission 3

Description

Mission 3 is a quiz section of variable difficulty. Participants compete against each other to improve their score, win badges and rise on the scoreboard and leaderboard tables.

Learning objectives

Participants will:

  • Test their knowledge and skills based on the learning objectives of Mission 1 and Mission 2.

Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Assess their competences in sustainable landscaping and garden practices.
